Worryingly there has been a huge rise in the number of teens contacting the clinic for age prevention treatments too.
“The news that teenagers are having Botox is ridiculous,” comments Mark Bury, chief executive at SurgiCare.
“Your teens are for enjoying, not for worrying about getting old already.”
“Skin is plump with lots of elasticity in the teen years, there is no need for Botox. It is a great preventative, but starting that young is extreme,” adds Bury.
While Bury says that SurgiCare turns away all teenagers wanting treatments, such as Botox, the fact still remains that young men and women across the UK are so unhappy with their looks that they would turn to surgery to make themselves feel better.
Bury believes that the media are to blame. He says women in particular are bombarded with images from the media, glamorising celebrities with thin, yet surgically enhanced figures.
“This is sure to impact on the perception of ‘ideal’ beauty when it comes to young women across the world,” adds Bury.
However Bury also claims that Brits are spending far too much time in the sun during their teens and not protecting their skin properly. This coupled with the rising trend in binge drinking, and its damaging effects on skin and more stressful lifestyles means the signs of aging are more apparent at a much younger age.
“A woman opting for cosmetic treatments, especially surgery, needs to be both physically and mentally ready for the procedure.”
“Surgery should not be a knee jerk decision or as a reaction to peer pressure,” comments Bury.
