Yeast Infections: Not Just For Girls
Well publicised as a common cause of vaginal irritation - Candidiasis- also known as a yeast infection, is not just problem for girls.
In this article:
  • How yeast infections also affect men.
  • Learn how healthy people can suffer with yeast infections.
  • The symptoms of a male yeast infection.

If you are a man, the thought of having a yeast infection probably never crossed your mind - not even once. The sad truth however, is that although men are less susceptible to a yeast infection, they are still vulnerable, says Jeremy Wong.

In fact, the candida fungus which causes a yeast infection in women, does not have any sexual preference. Rather, it is present as long as the environment allows it to thrive. Sufficient warmth, moisture and darkness is all it needs to survive and these conditions can be found in various parts of the body, including the penis.

Even the healthiest of people can get candida, and when your immune system is low the fungus can multiply, and symptoms become severe. Think sores, rashes, blisters, severe itching and a burning sensation at the head of the penis. Sometimes symptoms only appear later on in the infection, making them far worse and more difficult to treat.

The social embarrassment and emotional symptoms such as sexual dysfunction can be far reaching, and usually sufferers receive mocking rather than sympathy, leaving them without anyone to discuss their problem with.

You can avoid a yeast infection by sticking to a healthy diet including more vegetables and less sugar.
