Sue Asks:

I’ve recently had my hair dyed from blonde to ashy brown - however the end result is red and I hate it. The same hairdresser has now dyed over the semi permanent colour (which I had thought was permanent) with a different shade of brown. However every time I wash my hair the red tone seems to get brighter. Do you have any advice on how I can get my hair back to a brown tone or even back to blond? I’m worried my hair will end up multicoloured if I do it wrong.

Lisa’s Answer:

This is a problem a lot of women have when going brunette from blonde. When first colouring hair darker from lighter, it's important to put red back into the hair to stop it from going dull or khaki, however now the red pigment is back in your hair, next time you have it coloured go for a natural base shade of brown, using semi-permanent colour, but ask your stylist to use a dark blue mix tone with the desired shade. This will neutralise any unwanted red tones and should give you a neutral chocolate shade.

Hayley Asks:

I straighten my hair every day and although I mostly use serum beforehand a lot of my hair has started to break off. Do you have any advice on how to stop the breaking or fix the breakage?

Lisa’s Answer:

Firstly stop using your straighteners every day as this will only worsen your problem. Book in for an in salon ritual – Kerastase offers a good range of rituals – and follow up with after care treatments at home. Having a good haircut should stop the process in its tracks; try and do this ASAP as the problem will only get worse if left too long.

Michelle Asks:

I’m considering hair extensions but heard the glue that some hairdressers use can really damage your hair. Is that true?

Lisa’s Answer:

If the hair extensions are done well then it shouldn't be a problem, however there are alternatives to glue extensions now and maybe one of these would be better suited for you. Try and go on recommendation, as word of mouth would be a great way for you to feel more confident! Go and have a consultation at a reputable salon and this will also help put your mind at ease.
