My Hair’s Gone Black! How Can I Fix My Dye Job?
TV hair colourist Lisa Shepherd explains how to lighten your hair if you’ve accidentally dyed it too dark.

Lisa Shepherd, our gorgeous hair columnist from Lisa Shepherd Kidderminster, helps our readers solve their hair hassles - for good!

Gabby Asks:

I just accidentally died my blonde hair black and I really hate it and want to lighten it, but I’ve been told there’s no way and I just have to wait until it fades more. Is there nothing else I can do?

Lisa’s Answer

Hi Gabby, it is possible to strip the dark colour from your hair. However this is a long process in the salon. You may not get it back to your previous colour straight away, so a couple of visits may be necessary. Aim for a lighter brown with lights to begin with like Liz Hurley, and then build on this. Keep up a good hair care regime at home with regular treatments; Kerastase offer a great prescriptive range. And go to a reputable salon to get this done. Don’t try this one at home.

Lisa Shepherd is our resident hair expert, and they don’t call her the “Hair Colour Doctor” for nothing! She’s won the British Colour Technician of the Year award three times, Midlands Hairdresser of the Year three times and British Hairdresser of the Year. Young, passionate and ambitious, Lisa could make even the worst hair day ever look like a million dollars, and she’s here to prescribe the best hair advice just for you!
