Could Horse Shampoo Really Revamp Your Hair?

Every month, hair doctor extraordinaire Lisa Shepherd gives readers the hair how-to to dazzle. This month, Lisa helps a reader colour over highlights, gives a step by step guide to achieving volume and curls, and give the low-down on horse shampoo!

Lisa Shepherd, our gorgeous hair columnist from Lisa Shepherd Kidderminster, helps our readers solve their hair hassles - for good!

Sasha Asks:

What’s the best way to go back to brunette after blonde highlights? Is it safe to use a box?

Lisa’s Answer:

Go for a semi permanent colour, always a shade lighter than your desired colour so not to come out too dark, however when going darker initially I would recommend that you go and see a hairdresser at least for a consultation and to get some professional advice. Home dye kits are not bad for your hair if used correctly, just make sure you read all the instructions fully and if you have any doubts visit a salon.

Jax Asks:

I’ve heard horse shampoo does wonders for your hair, is this true?

Lisa’s Answer:

I have heard that Jennifer Anniston's secret is horse shampoo, however these products are specifically designed for horses so I wouldn't personally recommend them. There are so many fantastic product ranges out there, just do a bit of research, ask your hairdresser which products they would recommend and I am sure you will find the products that do wonders for your hair! Just to start you off I would recommend the Clynol id care and id style ranges, available nationwide. Visit www.clynol.com

Caroline Asks:

I can’t seem to get any volume in my hair and curls drop out almost straight away, even when they’re done in a salon. Are there any products or techniques you would recommend?

Lisa’s Answer:

This is an age old problem and practise will help a lot! Set the hair first with heated rollers, making sure you don’t remove the rollers until they are completely cold. Then tong the hair, this way you will get the volume and curl you are after. Always finish with a good strong hold hairspray, as this is essential to keep the curl in place, but don’t overdo it!
